SPOTLIGHT ON:
Bettendorf Public Library Summer Concert Series
The anticipated lineup for the Summer Concert Series is here! This summer, grab your cooler and head to Faye's Field for free weekly concerts each Thursday with some of the Quad Cities' top local bands. Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. and run from June 5 to August 14.

You are welcome to bring your own food and drink, and food trucks will also be on site for select concerts. In the case of incelment weather, concerts will be moved inside the library.
 
The Summer Concert Series is funded by the Bettendorf Public Library Foundation through sponsorship from TBK Bank, Bettendorf Rotary Club, Duck Creek Tire & Service, and Harrington's Pub.
LIBRARY NEWS
2025 Summer Reading Program
Get ready to level up at your library this summer! The Summer Reading Program is coming June 9 - August 2 and features fun events and reading challenges for all ages. Online registration will open a week prior to the start of the program on Monday, June 2.

Sunday Hours Change and Upcoming Closure
Sunday hours will be taking a break for summer. The library will be closed on Sundays May 25 through August 31. 
 
The library willl be closed Monday, May 26. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, May 27.

We are now a Dementia Friendly library!
At our in-service day last month, staff underwent training for the library to become a Dementia Friendly Organization through Dementia Friendly America. We learned basics of dementia such as what dementia is, what it’s like to live with the disease, and tips for communicating with and supporting people who have dementia. Our goal is to ensure everyone feels welcome at the library.

Demystifying AI with Atticus Garrison
Thursday, May 15
1:30-2:30 p.m.
Feeling overwhelmed by reports about AI transforming the world? Atticus Garrison, a Reference and Instruction Librarian at Black Hawk College, follows AI developments as part of his job. He joins us to provide a clear understanding of AI, its positive uses, and its possible malicious applications. Bring your questions about this rapidly changing landscape!

English Language Learners Conversation Club
Thursday, May 15
6-7 p.m.
Topic image
English language learners and ESL students can chat with teen volunteers to practice English in a relaxed, real-world environment. All ages and all stages of English language learning are welcome!

Bettendorf Public Library Chess Club
Saturday, May 17
1:30-3:30 p.m.
Stop in and join us for friendly games of chess! No experience is required; we are happy to teach you the rules to get you started. This club meets every other Saturday, and all skill levels are welcome.

Children's Events Break
We'll be taking a break from children's events in May while we prepare for the Summer Reading Program. There will be no events for children May 5-June 9 with the exception of the Reading Assistance Dogs June 5.
Teen events
Teen Art Committee
Thursday, May 8
6-7 p.m.
We're beautifying the Quad and we need your help to do it! Teens in grades 6-12 are encouraged to paint, plan, and decorate while gaining service learning hours. Help make the teen space in the library your own!

Friday, May 16
6-7 p.m.
We're having a movie night at the library! Enjoy popcorn and soda while you chill with your friends after hours.

Opera Quad Cities
Thursday, May 15
7-8 p.m.
Immerse yourself in the magic of classical singing with a free 30-minute preview of Die Fledermaus by Opera Quad Cities.
 
Whether you're a seasoned opera lover, just dipping your toes into the beauty of classical singing, or simply curious, Opera Quad Cities’ performance is sure to strike a chord. All are welcome!

Saturday, May 17
2-3:30 p.m.
Make a pink cordyline that will survive no matter what sort of gardener you are!
 
We'll be using instructions from the book Handmade Houseplants by Corrie Beth Hogg. Registration is required.
