Community Conenctions: Living Lands & Waters

Keen on making a difference in the fight against plastic pollution?
 
Learn practical tips from Mike Coyne-Logan from Living Lands & Waters. He spends up to nine months a year living on a barge, passionately cleaning our rivers and educating people about the harmful impact of plastic pollution on our water systems.
 
For over a quarter-century, Living Lands & Waters has been dedicated to environmental protection, preservation, and restoration. Discover more about their inspiring projects during this program.

Get a head start on your New Year's resolution and try a new hobby!
 
Our friendly, all-ages chess club meets every other Saturday. No experience is required. We're happy to teach you the rules to get you started.

ESL students of any age can chat with teen volunteers to practice English in a relaxed, real-world environment.
 
This group now meets twice a month, providing you with even more opportunites to sharpen your skills!

Children have the opportunity to read aloud to dogs from Quad Cities Canine.
 
This is great practice for kids and helps them build their vocabulary and self-confidence.

Teen Book Club: The Red House Mystery

3 - 4 P.M.
Join us for a lively discussion of A.A. Milne's only mystery novel. Copies of the book are available at the Youth Desk. Registration is required, and space is limited, so sign up now!

Brown Bag Lunch: Keith Soko
Friday, December 13

Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a performance by Keith Soko.
 
Soko is a singer and songwriter who plays a variety of cover songs and originals. Covers run the gamut from the blues rock of Elvis Presley to the glam rock of Alice Cooper. Original songs feature quirky and clever lyrics.

If this time of year has you stressed, attend the Library’s free program with SCORE and SBDC of the Quad Cities to learn how to manage and avoid stress altogether! Upcoming Holiday Hours
The Library will be closed Tuesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 25. Regular hours will resume Thursday, December 26. The Library will be closing early at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31
and will be closed
Wednesday, January 1. Regular hours will resume Thursday, January 2.
 
*Due to the holidays, you can expect the next edition of Pages on Thursday, January 2, with the regular publication schedule resuming on Tuesday, January 14.

Save the Date for the Winter Reading Program!
Get ready to cozy up for winter reading! This year's Winter Reading Program theme is Books, Blankets, and Bliss. The reading program will run from January 6 to February 15, and we'll have challenges for all ages. Early online registration starts December 30.

Children's Programming Break
We are taking a breif break from children's programming over the holidays. With the exception of the Reading Assistance Dogs on Thursday, January 2, there will be no children's programming between December 22 and January 5.

Friends President Allen Hale
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Allen Hale, President of the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.

Allen's dedication as both a leader and volunteer had an immeasurable impact on the Friends organization and the Library. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his tireless work ethic, generosity, and heartfelt commitment to others. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
