Toddler Reading Program
October 1 -31
The Toddler Reading program is for children ages birth to five who have not yet entered kindergarten. To complete the program and receive a prize, children must listen to twenty stories read by a caregiver. Registration begins October 1 and is available in-person in the youth area of the Library. The program will run through October 31. Each participant will aso receive a small plush animal reading buddy at registration!
 
The Toddler Reading Program is funded by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.

English as a Second Language Club
Thursday, October 3
6 - 7 p.m.
ESL students of any age can chat with fluent English-speaking teen volunteers to practice English in a relaxed, real-world environment.

Reading Assistance Dogs
Thursday, October 3
6 - 7 p.m.
Children have the opportunity to read aloud to dogs from Quad City Canines!

Incredible Bats
Friday, October 11
10 - 10:45 a.m.
Ready for an up-close encounter with a bat? Children will have the chance to meet a live bat and enjoy a story with Incredible Bats, who have been educating the Midwest about these often feared and misunderstood creatures since 1996!

Teen events
Teentober
October 1 -31
QC area teens (ages 11 - 19) are invited to participate in a reading challenge and/or contests during the month of October! All participants will be invited to the Teentober Red Carpet Awards Event on November 14 at the Putnam Museum and Science Center.
 
For the reading challenge, teens must read for at least 1,000 minutes to receive a completion prize from the Bettendorf Public Library and to enter into the QC grand prize drawing for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card.
 
For the contests, teens are asked to create a work and/or works that showcase their creativity and explore the 2024 theme of "The Elements." Contest categories are: video, art, writing, and performance. Grand Prize winners will be chosen by the QC Librarians and will receive $50 Visa gift cards. Submissions are due by October 31.

Thursday, October 10
5 -7 p.m.
Teens can get feedback or help on their Teentober project! Utilize the library's maker space during this teen-only work time. Plus: snacks, peer-feedback, and socialization!

Body Parts and Pieces Edition

1 - 2 p.m.
St. Ambrose Archivist Onnica Marquez will share information about strange objects made of body parts! Learn about oddities of antiquity and more! Adults and teens are welcome to attend.

A Library Speakers Consortium Watch Party

Wednesday, October 9
6 - 7 p.m.
Join our watch party for an author talk with the highly acclaimed Silvia Moreno-Garcia and the Library Speakers Consortium! Moreno-Garcia is the New York Times bestselling and award-winning author of several novels, including Mexican Gothic, The Daughter of Doctor Moreau, Gods of Jade and Shadow, and many more.
