A.S. King Author Visit and Book Signing
Monday, November 16
6-8 p.m.
Don't miss author A.S. King's visit to the library! Dubbed "one of the best YA writers working today" by the New York Times Book Review, King is the only two-time winner of the American Library Association’s Michael L. Printz Award. Combining her passion for teen literacy with her experience teaching adult reading, King will share insights from working with adult literacy learners, encourage students to reflect on the true meaning of literacy, and emphasize the importance of reading and writing skills for brain health. King’s humor and frank style will have you thinking about why thinking for yourself matters so much.

King will be signing books after her talk. Preorder her latest release, It Came from the Creek, from Atlas Collective to pick up and get signed at the event!

PIN Now Required for Libby and Kanopy
OverDrive, the owner of the Libby and Kanopy apps, initiated this change on October 12 to provide more security to users. If you have experienced trouble accessing either app since then, please see the FAQ below.
  • I don't know my PIN. Can you tell me what it is? The default PIN for your Bettendorf library card is the last four digits of your phone number. If your card was issued at another library, it may be the last four digits of your barcode number. Library staff can reset your PIN in person or over the phone at (563) 344-4175.
  • What's my card number? Libby may ask you to verify your library card by providing your card number. This is the 14 digit number below the barcode on the back of your card . Enter the full number without spaces.
  • What if I've lost my card or it was stolen? You are responsible for reporting any loss/theft of your library card to the library. Library staff will temporarily block your account and issue you a new card with a new barcode number the next time you visit the library.
  • Libby still isn't working. What now? If using the app, try uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it. If that does not work, bring your device to the library and we will help you sort it out! You can also book a one-on-one Skill Building Session with library staff for more in-depth training on Libby.

Libby AI Content Controls
Libby, the library app for ebooks and digital audiobooks, recently made it possible to set your preferences for content generated by artificial intelligence. If you would like to adjust your preferences, see the steps below.
  1. Select “Menu” at the bottom. (Depending on your settings, you may not have labels. It will be the middle icon.)
  2. Scroll down to “Settings” and select “Content Controls.”
  3. Select “AI Contributions.”
  4. Choose your preferences for “Text,” “Audio,” “Graphics,” and “Translation.”
  5. Under “Where to apply filters,” the default is set to “Deep search only.” Turn this off if you wish to apply your choices to titles owned by the library.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Libby filters rely on self-disclosed information from publishers.

Winter Reading Program
Unplug and rewind with the library this winter! We are challenging you to cut the cord and build a habit of reading with our Winter Reading Program. To complete the challenge, all you have to do is read for 10 days. But wait! If you keep reading, you'll earn additional prizes and raffle tickets! Register and start your reading on December 21.

Android App Update Required
If you previously downloaded the Android version of the Bettendorf Public Library app, a new version is now available in the Google Play Store. Though the older version of the app still functions, please uninstall it and download the new version. If you installed the app prior to September 2026 and do not reinstall, you will not receive updates and the quality of the app may degrade. The Apple Store app is unaffected.
