LIBRARY NEWS:
⚠️ Library Service Disruptions: Interlibrary Loans and Text Message Notifications
Interlibrary Loans: Extended wait times through August 4
Due to rising costs and federal budget uncertainty, the State Library of Iowa announced in May 2025 that IA Shares, the interlibrary loan delivery system, would move from a two-day to one-day delivery schedule. In addition, to further save on costs and partner with another state entity, IA Shares is transitioning to Iowa's Area Education Agencies for the transportation vendor.

From now till August 4, you may experience extended wait times for interlibrary loan materials while we transition to the new vendor. Materials borrowed locally through RiverShare Libraries will not be affected. Thank you for your patience during this transition.

Text Message Notifications: AT&T has discontinued email messaging gateway
On June 17, AT&T discontinued their email messaging gateway, which is how the Library delivered text message notices regarding your library account. We have been working to find a solution to ensure you resume receiving text message notifications.
Affected Providers:
  • AirVoice Wireless
  • AT&T
  • Black Wireless
  • Cingular
  • Consumer Cellular
  • H2O Wireless
  • Net 10 Wireless
  • PureTalk
  • Safelink
  • Straight Talk
  • Tracfone
For those affected, we are switching notifications to email or, if necessary, a phone call. Please allow library staff time to make this switch. If you are still not receiving account notifications by the week of August 4, you may contact the Library at 563-344-4175 or info@bettendorflibrary.com.

Final Week of the Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program ends this Saturday, August 2. Get your logs turned in to claim your finishing prize!
  • Adults recieve a voucher to the Friends of the Library bookshop and can enter a raffle drawing for various $50 gift cards.
  • Teens get a book and raffle entries for legendary loot, including a Nintendo Switch and a Barnes and Noble library shopping spree.
  • In addtion to the wooden quarter for the Friends of the Library Bookshop given at sign-up and the Rubik’s Cube halfway prize, children receive a book and a raffle ticket for prizes such as LEGO sets, a Nintendo Switch Lite, and a telescope upon completion of their challenge.
